What job openings are there in nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma?

What job openings are there in nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma?
I am a speech pathologist with 22 years of experience looking to leave school based speech pathology and work in a different position. I am looking at possibly getting a Doctor of Ministry in Children and Poverty. I have worked with poverty level students for the last 15 years and love working with this population. I would love to work with this population in a different area other than the schools and it does not have to do with speech pathology if the job requires something different.

HI Alexis, You say nicest cheapest. You are going to think I am delusional, but if you have a Salvation Army in your area... why not spend a few days looking through what they have. My daugher has found and wears: Limited Arden B Cache Old Navy Express Gap Guess American Eagle Abercrombie Aeropostle Lucky Jeans 7 For All Mankind BeBe XOXO Forever 21 Versace Armani Baby PHat Among others. She only buys the clothes that look practically new. The most she spends on anything is $6.00. You can go into a Salvation Army with $200.00 and come out with more clothes than will fit in your closet. Not everything there is old, torn, or holey. Somethings are new to nearly new... and why not get the bargains where you can? What she gets is nicer than the clothes at Sears, JC Penney, WalMart or KMart... for sure. Other than that.... I hear that Old Navy is popular with high school kids as well. Why not go in and take a look... You will also have to take your lunch, as there is lots of clothes to look through. Thanks for reading. :)) PS: I should have mentioned that she is a model and does print work and commercials in Texas. It is not like she cannot afford to buy clothes at the retail stores, but she would rather spend $6.00 for a nice pair of jeans than $65.00. She spends her money on other things she wants.

Controllers -Must you get the job right after Oklahoma City?

Controllers -Must you get the job right after Oklahoma City?
I recently asked a question about going back to school for something else after getting out of the CTI program and wondered if I should do that before or after Oklahoma City. Someone said go to Oklahoma City right away and go back to school after. I was wondering if that's even possible - Can you graduate from the Academy and not accept a job somewhere as a controller right away? And when you decide to get the job later, would you have to go through training all over again?

No u don've to its just depend if ur work place have Sim or they can give u OJTI to know about Local knowledge n procedures
2 :
When you are sent to OKC, you've been hired and are on the FAA payroll. It's not like going to college where you're on your own nickle. I've never heard of anyone completing training at OKC and then going off to do something else. AFAIK, you'd have to resign and take the chance of not being hired back. If you're determined to get additional schooling, either wait till you are certified at your duty station and then attend school part time, or complete whatever schooling you need and then apply for your ATC position.
3 :
In order to go to Ok City you have already been offered and accepted a position. You can't just not go to your facility, basically quitting, after completing your training at OK City and expect to ever be rehired by the FAA. You could go to school part time after completing your training at your facility. Lots of controllers do that.
4 :
I'm sorry if I was the one who confused you. Once you're in Ok City, you've already got a job slot. The FAA will actually call you once you've graduated the CTI program..or up to a couple months before. It is said that you can turn down facilities up to two times..IE the first two choices or places they would like you to go you can turn down. But once they call you up a third time with the name of a facility, you'd best take it. They are not required to call you back at all, not even a second time. But three would be a fair number. When the FAA purchases your plane ticket to Ok City, it is kind of a round trip ticket; your final destination will be in the vicinity of your facility. What I meant by going back to school later was this: once you have your job, do evening school/classes/training or whatever it is you want to do. The FAA understands the importance of an education, especially higher education. Hope I haven't confused you further :)

Oklahoma City public schools, Who decides what is appropriate?

Oklahoma City public schools, Who decides what is appropriate?
My daughter is transitioning into an Oklahoma City public school out Sooner Start. What I am trying to figure out is who decides what is appropriate for my child? If the school decides then I guess I need a better definition then the one that in the dictionary. I was gave 3 schools to look at and I choose the one that is not the closest to my home because I felt it is more appropriate for my child. The one that is closest to my home has some problems and that is why I did not go with it. Well according to Oklahoma State law they district must reimburse you gas mileage if they can not provide transportation to and from the school that is closest to you if they cannot. How ever you can choose another school if it can provide the care and programs your child needs. Which is what I did. Now they are not wanting to reimburse me the mileage as they feel the school closest to me is appropriate enough. Even though as a parent you gave me 3 chooses so shouldn't that mean I can be the one to decide what is better for my child? Now please understand I do have the Policy and Procedure Manual for Special Needs Education in Oklahoma, so please don't message me with go read it. Because it all boils back to Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). If you need more info just let me know. THANK YOU

If you can show just cause then you have a good chance at winning here. Federal law(IDEA) trumps state laws every time because that is where they get there funding. So you have to write them a letter stating what accommodation you are needing and why. You should also state that you were given choices per the federal law as to which school would be able to provide an APPROPRIATE education for your child. I would go on to state the differences in the two school and why the closer school is not an appropriate choice for her educational needs and goals. All communication with your district should be in writing so you have a record. Every correspondence you have with the district through this process you should make a copy of. You should also put on the bottom of each letter cc: file so the district knows you are keeping them and they tend to take you a little more seriously then! Also you may need the services of an educational advocate. You will want to go to the Oklahoma Family Network who can match you with an advocate. Their site is below.

Central time zone. If you are trying to set the clock on a computer, pick the closet big town to you.
2 :
depends on if it's an elementary school, high school, or middle school. I live in OKC and ours go off (i think) between 8-9 in the morning, and 2-3 in the afternoon. Each is programmed for the school it's for tho, so times vary.

75 percent of Oklahoma high school students can't name the first President of the U.S.?
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Only one in four Oklahoma public high school students can name the first President of the United States, according to a survey released today. The survey was commissioned by the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs in observance of Constitution Day on Thursday. That is pretty sad. Oklahoma is also the most Republican state in the nation.
2 :
Government schools at work. You think kids have gotten smarter since the Worthless One Jimmy Carter instituted the Department of Education? Not! Leftist indoctrination.
3 :
It says a lot about public education in this country, none of it good. Perhaps history should be a more important subject than sex-ed.
4 :
Liberal social agenda. If they actually spent time teaching history, students would vote Republican!
5 :
Exactly what Liberals want in public education. More dumbies to register to vote.
6 :
because they all illegal immigrants and mexican
7 :
doesn't surprise me
8 :
i think they kids are messing with them. i did when i was in high school.
9 :
I feel disappointed, how can kids from other countries must learn about the history of the United States of America in great detail, and be tested and expected to pass, and our own educational system be so dismissive of the importance of having well educated children. Well educated children=better, more responsible adults. I wouldn't rest all the blame on our educational system, we as parents should play an active part in our son's and daughter's education.
10 :
This is very sad. I hope a lot of people that claim that public schools is a socialist program and we should accept health care will read this and realize how bad the government does in running things. I see ignorance on here all the time. It makes me scared for my country. I see people who do not know what type of government we have and no very little to nothing about history. I see people asking what is wrong with socialism, people claiming that capitalism is the problem, and so on. Now I know why they think this way. They learned absolutely nothing in 12 years of public education.
11 :
EPIC FAIL
12 :
My thoughts? I see that 75% of the students in Oklahoma got left behind. Another Bush program that fell flat on its @$$. If that isn't screaming that we need more money into our education system, as well as higher standards to pass a grade and into the next, I don't know what is.
13 :
I live in Oklahoma and was watching the local news when this was brought to my attention. I was SHOCKED, APPALLED, and EMBARRESED to say the least. I mean how is that possible. I bet they never give that test again.

check out this site. I haven't been to it for a while but it should give you school reports, crime rates and such. I found it very helpful when looking to move to South Carolina. it should let you compare both places side by side. good luck
2 :
Don't take this the wrong way, but why would you want to move to Okllahoma? You do know that it is part of tornado alley, you cannot prepare for a tornado, they come without almost any warning and destroy homes and kill thousands of people. You could not pay me enough money to live anywhere near tornado alley. Good Luck and build a big shelter.
3 :
Bixby. Def. The city is dirty and has a very high crime rate. Bixby is just south of Tulsa which is within minutes from south Tulsa, better area socioeconomically and better job opportunities. Bad thing about Bixby is it floods almost every time it rains. I would never buy a house there. You'd do better in SE Tulsa (in the Union School district-not Tulsa), Broken Arrow in Tulsa county, or Jenks (the best public school in the state). If you live in Tulsa county, your kids will get free college tuition in a new program called "Tulsa Achieves".
4 :
Edmond is nice and has great schools also in the Edmond area with good schools is Deer Creek. I know nothing about Tulsa so I cant help there, but you would be happy in Edmond for sure. A good place to look up schools on the net is www.greatschools.net A comment about the Tornado poster is that even though we do have Tornado's here in Oklahoma, we have plenty of warning when they come. SO he is incorrect in the fact that thousands of people die in them. Oklahoma is worth living in because it has a cheap cost of living and nice people. I just heard last week that Forbes Magazine named Oklahoma City the best place to live where the recession wont affect you either. :)

CTI school while waiting for Oklahoma City? please help!!!?

CTI school while waiting for Oklahoma City? please help!!!?
Is it smart of me to be going to college for ATC and apply for the AT-SAT pre-employment test at the same time? Basically so I won't have to go a full 2 years at school and then apply but rather apply and go to school and learn a bit while I'm waiting for the whole process to Oklahoma City anyway. And also, would this technically still be an off the street hire still?
Aircraft - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

The FAA recently had two bids for off the street new hires. Given the bleak outlook for trainees, both off the street and CTI graduates, it appears likely that the FAA will continue to offer such bids. In my opinion, it would be madness to pay good money to go to a CTI school for an air traffic controller position. First of all, the CTI program does not prepare you for a career as an air traffic controller. You will be no better off than the street hires. Believe this! The only advantage is that you will get to skip a few weeks of the FAA academy in OKC. Second, a CTI school, by its very nature, does not screen its students for aptitude. Not everyone has the inherent skills necessary to be successful as an air traffic controller. It makes no sense to spend all that money only to find, years later, that you are not suited for the job. Finally, the air traffic controllers have been working without a contract for two years. Working conditions are poisonous. New hires pay was slashed and the training pipeline is clogged with trainees. Thus, career progression raises will be much delayed. Once you do start on the job training, you will be surprised to find there will be a more than 50% washout rate. If you decide to put up with all this BS, you will be a lot happier that you did not invest ANY money into it up front. In answer to your other question, if you did not graduate from a four year CTI program, I believe you would still be considered an off the street hire. Good luck!

What can you tell me about Oklahoma...specifically Oklahoma City?!?!?
I recently got accepted to Oklahoma City University School of Law. I dont know if I'll be going there or not yet. I'm still waiting for the other schools. I'd really like to get an idea for what life would be like there. Please dont send me a link to about Oklahoma....I know how to do that on my own. I want someone's personal feelings and experience. I live in California and I'm an Iranian-American, so I'm used to a great deal of diversity. Will I see much of that in Oklahoma City? What about housing? Social Scene? Prices? Shopping? Weather? I'll take ANY info you have! :o)

I attended OCU for my undergrad. It is a great campus. The students, and faculty are very nice. Its a smaller University, so your class size will be smaller than others. For me, this was a good thing because I got to know the students, and the professors. The campus is located in a nice area. Its not too far from shopping, movies, and restaurants. There's always something going on at the campus. I've known several people who attended their law school. They came from all over the country, so they must be good. Those students always had good things to say about their courses, and their professors. Its a tough school to get into, so congratulations.
